Over time, there are going to be things that need to be touched up, replaced and repaired. It’s simply a part of home maintenance.

Knowing how to execute some simple repairs will prevent problems from growing worse as well as eliminating the need for costly repairmen.

The first ‘Small DIY Repairs‘ covered how to repair torn vinyl, broken tiles and scratches in wooden cabinets.

Here are a few more quick repairs you can implement around the house:

Worn-Out or Dried Caulk

To remove unsightly dried caulk, place some adhesive remover on a damp cloth and wipe it over the caulk. Allow the solution to really soak in. Remove the old caulk and clean the space with ceramic tile cleaner. After the area is dry, re-caulk.

Frozen Ice-Maker

Remove the ice collecting bin and look for the tray where the water freezes into cubes. Search for a small piece of plastic pipe from which water flows into the tray.

It’s common for the end of this pipe to freeze. Simply aim a hair dryer at the frozen end of the pipe and it should thaw out after about five minutes.

Loose Laminate Countertops

A strong adhesive like Liquid Nails is all that is necessary to re-secure loose laminate. Apply the adhesive underneath the surface and place a heavy object over the area until dry.
