Repurpose Your Furniture – Part 2

Willshire Armoire by Hillsdale

Using older furniture pieces in new ways instead of throwing them out can add visual interest to your home and can save big bucks.

The first ‘Repurpose Your Furniture‘ covered how to convert serving trays to accent tables and how oversized floor pillows could actually be used as headboards.

Following are a couple of ways you can use older furniture pieces to prevent spending an arm and a leg on a new credenza or buffet.

Additional Height with the Armoire

Have an old armoire you were using for a big box TV that’s not really suitable with the new widescreen you’ve got your eye on? Don’t dump it.

This shelving already in place makes for an effortless transition into a storage unit for fine china and serving ware.

Simply refinish the surface to match its new surroundings.

Bookshelves Instead of a Credenza

Open bookshelves can be repurposed into a modern alternative to the more traditional credenza. Storage space is practically doubled because the top of the bookshelf can now be utilized.

Try incorporating two or three rows of book cases, separated by about 2 1/2 to 3 feet of space. This well make the shelving double as a focal point for the wall  while housing all of your dishes, serving materials and other accent pieces.
