The Interior Door

Don't Let Your Doors End Up Like This

Growing tired of the same old plain white doors? Does it seem as though every time you turn around, you’re confronted by large slabs of “blah”?

Or maybe you haven’t, but just find yourself uninspired by your home. You may not have realized it, but those large white doors may have a lot to do with it.

Replacing the door with one that has glass panels can really open up the space and lets plenty of natural light in. If privacy is an issue, there are doors with translucent glass panels that still allow light in while keeping out potential prying eyes.

If replacing the doors isn’t an option, there are still a few things you can do.

  • If the room is neutral in tone, paint the door a bold contrasting color that plays on a piece of artwork or other design element in the room.
  • If the room is decorated with vibrant colors, paint the door a complimentary color. Leaving the frame of the door white will create a framing effect and make the door stand out even more.
  • Placing a full mirror on the back of the door, or using mirror panels, will open up the room and make it seem larger than it is.
  • Painting the back of the door (great for children’s rooms) with chalkboard paint allows them to express their creative size while keeping the walls safe. Chalkboard paint also works well for pantry doors, where grocery lists can be quickly jotted down in a unique and interesting way.
