There is no denying our reliance upon light. We pattern our daily lives around the sun and plan many of our activities based on the amount of sunlight we’re expecting on any given day. We seem to get a renewed energy after spending time in the light, don’t we?

Well, the amount of light in a room directly reflects the energy in the room.

Whether to create a soothing ambiance or you’re just not in the mood for bright, imposing light, the floor lamp is the answer.

Creating certain moods has a lot to do with the color and transparency of the lampshade, the height of the light and the wattage of the bulb. The height that many floor lamps have gives them the upper hand over table lamps in generating moods.

Look beyond the traditional offerings of nothing more than a tube on a base with a bulb and shade resting on the top with a few wires running through it.

Don’t get discouraged if this describes the floor lamp in your home. Instead, let it serve as a heads-up to the many options available.

Floor lamps vary in style from purely vertical, swinging-arm, those that hang over space that is not close to its base. Having options available is always a good thing. Finding a floor lamp to settle on is a much harder decision than choosing to replace  an old one.
