The part is light on bristles and it is wrapped with string around plastic/rubber. The broom I have is heavy on bristles wrapped with steel wire around a wood handle set. You need to find a supplier of a much heavier duty broom, and charge a little more for quality. This is not a once a year purchase so good quality heavy duty is more important then cheap and light. We use the fire place nearly daily in the winter. This broom will not last. I am already looking for another source.
