How to Choose the Right Recliner

How to Choose the Right Recliner

Recliners are available in various features and prices and just like buying a car – you might not need some of the features. In this article, we’ll try to explain some of the common questions regarding how to choose the right recliner for you.

Materials

Recliners are available in various fabric options from leather, vinyl, microfiber and many more. This is just a matter of preference and budget since certain material such as top grain leather will definitely command a higher price than polyester for example.

Weight Limit and Size

Most recliners usually can support around 250 lbs weight. If you need a higher weight limit, there are many recliners that offer up to 350 lbs or more limit. Some “Big Boy” recliners also offer a larger size and seating area.

Manual vs Power

This is another personal preference area. Most recliners are offered in both the manual and power option. Power recliners can be reclined just by a touch of a button while manual recliners need to be manually pushed with your body weight.  Some power recliners are also offered with additional features such as heat and massage. On the other hand, since the manual recliners do not need to be plugged in, it is more flexible on where you can put them without having to worry about cable extension.

Rocker vs Glider

Rocker and glider describe the moving mechanism of the recliners. This is actually self explanatory since glider features a back and forth gliding motion while rocker obviously features a rocking motion. Swivel option is a popular addition to this moving mechanism which results in popular term such as Glider Swivel recliners or Rocker Swivel recliners.

Wall Space

Regular recliners typically need around 8 inches of wall space however some special types of recliners called Wall Hugger feature a bit less wall space if you need to put them in a bit smaller space. On the other end of spectrum, you can have a Full Layout (usually comes to around 150 degree angle) or even Lay Flat recliners (180 degree) if space is not an issue.
